There are times, during the breeding season, when the environment and feeding habits of a female snake conspire to bring about a condition known as eggbinding. There are many factors that can lead to a female becoming eggbound; dehydration, malnutrition, neglect, stress, low humidity, poor health, obesity, lack of a proper lay box, and a past history of eggbinding are just a few of them. The cause may not always be determinable, especially when you are dealing with an animal that you did not raise.

Luckily, there are treatments and proceedures available that can counter the effects of eggbinding. The first step is recognizing when a female has become eggbound. This can be somewhat difficult, especially if you are fairly new to breeding.
