Alexandrite is the largest of a trio of female Bloodreds that picked up from a fellow breeder in 2006. While she is not as diffused as Hematite, her mate for this year, she has some excellent reds and an unfailing appetite. There was some minor disputes about her actual genetics at the time of hatching though, so we've paired her up with our best Bloodred male to confirm what we already believe to be true. We are really looking forward to seeing what hatches out of this clutch!
This pairing has now been confirmed for the 2008 breeding season, first hook-up occured on 03-23-08 and again on 03-26-08. We paired them up twice to increase the likelihood of a fertile clutch. Alexandrite laid 10 healthy eggs on 05-31-08 during the evening, and we expect to hatch sometime around 08-04-08.
The eggs started pipping on 08-17-08 and the fnal hatchling emerged from it's egg on 08-20-08. All ten eggs hatched successfully, giving us ten healthy hatchlings.
Thank you,
