Charcoal is one of our oldest girls in the collections, she's been with since nearly the beginning of our snake keeping and has always been treasured for her lightning quick reflexes and excellent feeding responses. She was sold to us as a ghost, though through the years she has darkened far more than we expected. This is the reason we are pairing her with Zircon, our Hypo male, to prove whether she is a Ghost (Hypo + Anery) or only het Hypo once and for all. This pairing will also let us know if our Hypo male is het for Anery.

This pairing has now been confirmed for the 2008 breeding season, first hook-up occured on 03-13-08 and the second on 03-19-08. We paired them up twice to increase the likelihood of a fertile clutch. Charcoal laid 16 eggs on 05-11-08, 15 of which appear to be fertile leaving only a single slug. The eggs were projected to hatch sometime around 07-14-08.

As with the rest of our clutches, this clutch started pipping long after the projected hatch date on day 85/86. All of the babies hatched out within 3 days of the first pip, and all appear to be healthy normals. It was disappointing to find nothing but normals in the clutch, but not completely unexpected and we are pleased to have 15 healthy hatchlings after waiting so long for them to hatch out.
