Magnolia is one of our lucky pet store finds, though this makes it more difficult to know her background genetics and history. She has been easy to handle though, and has absolutely no trouble when it comes to eating. We have paired her up with Opal in the hopes of proving out his het Stripe while testing Magnolia to see if she is het Anery.

This pairing has been confirmed for the 2008 breeding season, first hook-up occured on 03-26-08 and the second occurred on 04-01-08.

Magnolia started to lay her eggs on 06-14-08, dropping 7 fertile eggs before becoming eggbound with another 7 eggs inside her. Over the next two days we monitored her closely, and helped her remove the one egg that was stuck right at the vent. Unforuntely her condition deteriated quickly during the next 24 hours, and before we could do more to help her she passed away. We removed the last 6 eggs and placed them in a seperate container away from the initial 7 she laid, but we don't expect them to hatch as they don't quite appear viable. The good eggs are expected to hatch sometime around 08-18-08.

We were distraught to lose Magnolia, she is the first adult snake that we have lost during the entire time we've been keeping snakes. We'd only had her a short time, no more than 6-7 months of her adult life, and prior to being bred this season she appeared completely healthy. If she had similar trouble during a previous breeding season, we couldn't say as she was purchased as an adult from a reputable reptile store and her background information was limited.

The 7 good eggs are currently overdue and expected to hatch out anyday. Though they appear to be in the process of going bad, they still show veins when candled and we have hopes that they will go on to hatch.

The eggs had started pipping on 08-24-08 and the final hatchling exited the egg on 08-30-08. Unfortunately, 2 of the amels did not survive - one died shortly after leaving the egg far too early and the second was found D.I.E. The 1 remaining amel and the 4 snows appear to be doing great though.

Thank you,
